Equipment

  • Skillet or Griddle
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spatula

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1.25 cups buttermilk at room temperature
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter plus more for cooking

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt until evenly combined.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk, beaten egg, and melted butter. Stir until smooth.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, folding gently with a spatula. Mix just until combined; the batter should be slightly lumpy to ensure fluffy pancakes.
  • Let the batter rest for 5-10 minutes while you preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease the surface with butter or oil.
  • Pour about ΒΌ cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface and the edges appear set, then flip carefully and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  • Serve immediately with butter and warm syrup, or your choice of toppings.

Notes

Avoid overmixing the batter to keep the pancakes light and fluffy. For added flavor, consider incorporating vanilla extract or cinnamon into the batter.
